Martin Butler, interviews his teacher: “What is the nature of your work? As a student, I was introduced to Spinoza during the 70’s and have continued studying his ideas ever since. I work with a group of individuals who, like myself, wanted more than the normal pursuits; such as, riches, fame and excessive pleasures. All seem OK, yet we all have a sensitivity that there is more to life. What seems to be messing in some of us, is a feeling of truth, of fulfillment and purpose. I have included Gurdjieff in this work. Gurdjieff is a wonderful introduction to the problems in human nature, he explains that man is asleep, and the goal is to awaken.  Spinoza, I know and understand that he has a method to awaken our true intelligence. This is the nature of the work, to awaken the mind through reason and intuition: Happiness, fulfillment and purpose is possible.
