Hello Tom,
Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to understand Spinoza’s God because of our preconceive thoughts and concepts. We’re all conditioned to believe that God is like a man but with super powers and dispenses rewards and punishments. The feelings are to fear God because He is easy to anger. However, Spinoza’s idea can free us from these erroneous beliefs and Spinoza’s God is a being who is infinite and eternal who has infinite attributes. We can know two of His attributes which we are a part of and which are ‘Thought’ (being ideas) and ‘Extension (being motion and rest or the physical universe). Unfortunately, prior to understanding God’s nature we must first know our nature then it would be possible to know God.
