I’m only interested in something that is practical. Where is the starting point in all of this, because it all seems like theory?

If you are looking for practicality Spinoza will take you there; however, there is only one significant requirement. You must want it and put in the effort for it. Firstly, what is being practical, according to Spinoza, if man lives by reason then he follows the practical road of reality. He follows the better path that will improve his character and wellbeing. The problem with all of us is that we live with false ideas, fictitious thoughts and fantasy and we wonder why we suffer. Reason (practicality) offers us to see what is real and in the process of working with our intelligence we gain real inner mental power. As you can see this is not theory, this is real practical knowledge.
