Matt, a former student asked, why is Spinoza’s Ethics so difficult to understand? I replied, it’s because we are not used to applying our mind to think clearly. We are all programmed early in life to follow the rules, to obey, and make the least amount of effort in whatever we do. Consequently, we apply little effort to satisfy any of our desires. We were never told to think but to memorize. Memorizing is not thinking. You might get an ‘A’ in your test, but you never grasped the concept. You did not understand the material. High IQ individuals have a great memory, but they lack understanding. Understanding is required to assimilate Spinoza’s Ethics. As a teacher and mentor, I will help you learn how to activate your higher intelligence so you will be able to understand.
